Choosing degree based on job outcomes, not prestige
Choosing a university in the US is one of the biggest financial decisions you will ever make. To win, you have to think like a strategist, not just a student. Your goal isn't just to get a degree; it is to turn that degree into a high-paying job and a long-term visa. Here is your guide to making it happen.
In your home country, a "famous" school name might be everything. In the US, the market is different. Employers care about your skills and the school’s pipeline to their industry.
- Prestige "fades" quickly. A Top-20 school in a rural area might have a lower "internship-to-offer" rate than a Top-100 school in a tech hub.
- Research the "Career Outcomes Report" for your specific department. If the median starting salary and the list of hiring companies (like Amazon, Google, or Goldman Sachs) don't match your goals, the prestige isn't helping you.
