2) Job Search System
Resume construction (U.S. format, impact bullets)
In the U.S., finding a job is not just about being good at your work. It is about having a system. Most people just click Apply on a website and wait. That is the slowest way to get hired.Think of your job search like a business. You need a great product (your resume), a great storefront (your LinkedIn), and a direct way to talk to customers (networking). Let’s build your system.
In the U.S., a resume is a marketing document, not a biography. It should usually be only one page.
- Do not include a photo, your birthday, or your home country. U.S. law forbids companies from hiring based on these things, so they might throw your resume away just to be safe.
- Use the "X-Y-Z" formula. Instead of saying "I coded a website," say: "Developed a website (X) that handled 500 users daily (Y) using React and Node.js (Z)." This tells the boss exactly how much value you bring.
