In Progress
5) Risk, Protection & Longevity (Playing the Long Game)
Think long-term longevity (design for 30 years of ambition)
Healthspan vs. Lifespan
- Lifespan: The total number of years you live.
- Healthspan: The number of years you live in good health, free from chronic disease.
- We aim to have our Healthspan match our Lifespan as closely as possible. You don't want to spend your last 20 years in a hospital bed; you want to be active and sharp.
Avoiding Chronic Disease Trajectories
Most people die from the same four things (The Four Horsemen). You can track your risk for these today by monitoring your ApoB, blood pressure, and HbA1c. If you catch a rising trend at age 25, you can prevent a heart attack at age 55.
Compounding Health Habits
Just like money in a bank account, health habits compound.
- Walking 10,000 steps a day or eating 30 different plants a week seems small, but over 20 years, these habits prevent the cellular decay that leads to disease.
- Sleep is the time when your brain flushes out toxins. Skipping sleep to study for one exam is okay; skipping sleep for five years is a recipe for early cognitive decline.
Designing a Body and Mind for 30 Years of Ambition
The U.S. career path is a marathon, not a sprint.
- Mental Resilience: Practice stress management now (meditation, therapy) so that when you are a CEO or a Senior Founder in 10 years, you have the internal tools to handle the pressure.
- Physical Strength: High bone density and muscle mass are your armor. They protect you from injuries and metabolic diseases as you age.
