Get a U.S. phone number + data plan (SIM/eSIM):
Most U.S. banks and government portals (Social Security, DMV) use Short Code SMS for verification. They frequently block VoIP/virtual numbers like Google Voice. So, you’ll first need to secure an eSIM via the Tello or Mint Mobile app.
- It’ll cost you $15–$25 per month for 10GB+ data.
- And the requirement is to have an Unlocked phone. (Check: Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock must say "No SIM restrictions").
- You do not need an SSN or Passport to buy these. Any international credit/debit card works for payment.
